Projects

GGCC currently offers two projects: the annual GGC Technology Conference for middle school girls, and Technology at the Crossroads, an urban ecology project that introduces students to issues in the urban environment while they learn to use geographic information and global positioning systems in their investigations. Now in its fourth year, T@C provides opportunities for students to continue in the program, working as peer leaders, teaching assistants, and counselors. The students design GIS maps for small business and community organizations and maintain the project website and blogs. Students also work in summer internships.

The annual GGC Technology Conference brings middle school girls together for a day of technology and science experiences in which they participate in hands-on sessions led by college women, meet and interview professional women, and work on team challenges. The conference is always a huge hit with the girls.

GGCC is currently planning a new program, Gamma Girls, which will introduce girls to careers in computer science and engineering. We will use the same model that has proven so successful in the Technology at the Crossroads project. Students will participate in summer and after-school programs and then have the opportunity to continue working and learning as peer leaders, teaching assistants, counselors, interns, and consultants. Support for selecting courses in high school and exploring and applying to college are provided.
